Sharps Spring Natural Area

With nearly 6 miles of flat to moderately sloped paved surface the Smyrna #Greenway is perfect for our needs.  The greenway has a no shortage of things to see.  The paved path winds it way around sections of Percy Priest Lake, along the river, some urban areas, around an airport, points of historical interest, and ball fields. A Midsummer’s Ride Today we have decided to enter the greenway at the Espey Trailhead.  We pull into the parking lot of the Sharps Springs Natural Area of off Jefferson Pike and easily find a parking place.   The trail is easily accessed from the parking lot which has two trail access points.  Well maintained  bathrooms are conveniently located between these access points. We feel like seasoned veterans as we unload our #recumbent trikes from my Ford Ranger.  We perform our pre-ride checklist:  hats, sunglasses, bottled water, bike tool kit, spare inner tube, snacks,  camera, glucose tablets , and cell phone.  We remind each other…

In Tennessee, a #bicycle has the legal status of a vehicle. This means that bicyclists have full rights and responsibilities on the roadway and are subject to the regulations governing the operation of a motor vehicle. My wife and I began riding #recumbent trikes a few months back as a fun way to get our #exercise.  Our original thought was that we would ride around our neighborhood. We live in a typical subdivision setting and our standard ride exposes us to very little car traffic. As our comfort with the trikes grew and our physical conditioning got better we wanted to expand our riding adventures. We decided to start utilizing the greenways in our area.  We have some really enjoyable greenways close to us and these greenways are automobile free. Results are based on choices

I was traveling full steam ahead on a path of habits that had good #health in my rear view.  I wasn’t using my mirrors.  Could I turn my direction and head the other way on a #recumbent trike? Pedaling in the wrong direction. What is it that motivates us to move in a new direction?  With all the momentum in a certain direction, what is it that will expedite a change of course?  Each individual will have a different answer.  While there are basic needs that we all share and some overlap in our likes and interests, much of our life’s course is navigated by our personal choices. Leaving the doctor’s office, I felt good about the way I had been living in regards to my health.  I had been doing weekly meal planning, cooking at home, and packing my lunch.  These were all positive steps in the right direction.  I felt confident that this would be reflected in my blood…
